Armed with a cart brimming with tools and work samples, he embarked on a new chapter, transforming into B. Rosenberg Shoes manufacturing under the name Rex Shoes. Initially selling his wares on the streets, Rosenberg’s dedication led him to construct his first factory on Magazine Street. As the dust settled after the Civil War, his four-story tall factory, covering nearly an entire city block, stood tall as one of the largest manufacturing companies in the south.

After the Industrial Revolution, needing more space and automated equipment, they built a factory on 215-221 Decatur Street in the heart of the New Orleans French Quarter. By this time, his children had joined him in business, and by the turn of the century, the company was selling internationally.

Fast forward to 1985, when the business closed. Our founder, Nanette Rosenberg Adair — a descendant of B. Rosenberg — has worked tirelessly to bring the Rex Shoe name back into the limelight, honing our skills, embracing new techniques and materials, while never compromising on our core values of quality and attention to detail.
